What the heck is a preorder and why is it important?

Preordering is purchasing a book before it's published. The bookstore will call you to pickup when it has arrived (or you can have it shipped to your door).

This helps books get on bestseller lists, because all those preorders count towards their first week of sales! That's the most important reason to preorder from authors you love. But there are others, including....

  • Builds bookstore and bookstore staff awareness - What the heck is this book everyone is preordering? Maybe we should order extra copies and give it prominent placement in the store! Great idea!

  • Builds buzz and awareness on social media - Especially if you interact with the preorder content (comment, like, subscribe!), and share that you've preordered on the good old h'internet.

  • Math! - More early sales = more early reviews = more awareness = more sales, repeat.

  • Press and Interviews - Being on bestseller lists, most anticipated lists, and having an online presence gets authors on the media's radar, which will result in more coverage, which will result in more sales (see Math, above)

  • Reader voice - Help shape the literary landscape of your region by voting with your dollars and bringing awareness to your favorite authors, titles, genres, and subjects.

Disclaimer: Even though the success of my book, Nobody's Mother: A Childfree Memoir, is super important to me, something else is just as important.... My passion for supporting local!! Local bookstores are quite simply, the ding dang best and I hate Amazon and their predatory practices with a fiery passion that burns deep within my soul. I know beggars can't be choosers, yet here I am begging for your business AND being choosy about how you provide it. I know, I'm a lot. But you already knew that.

Can't afford to preorder? Worry not! Times are tough. You can still help by requesting the book at your local library! At the Halifax Public Library, that's done via your Library Dashboard, on the Submit a Suggestion tab.

So without further adieu, here are some Lindsey-approved places to preorder my book online across Canada (the book will be available in the US and UK in Spring 2027)!

Feel free to ask your local bookstore online, in-person, or by phone to order your copy of Nobody's Mother (or another fabulous local book) today!
