Lindsey Harrington

I began writing seriously eight years ago, and while it's not my day job, it is my vocation. Born in Newfoundland and based in Nova Scotia, I write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry from my home in Dartmouth. Place plays a strong role in my work and I love exploring societal issues through a personal lens.

My first book, slated for publication with Nimbus in Fall 2026, is an unmotherhood memoir. It delves into how I decided I didn't want children and the breakdowns that ensued with family, friends, society, and myself. It also explores broader themes of reproductive autonomy, mother-daughter relationships, and female friendship

In my short career, I've accomplished a lot! I have over fifty short-form publications, including with the Toronto Star, CBC First Person, Riddle Fence, the Dalhousie Review, and the Literary Review of Canada. I've longlisted for the CBC Nonfiction Prize and shortlisted for the Fiddlehead Creative Nonfiction Prize.

I also love to build community around writing and reading. This has included starting writing collectives and open mics, freezing poems in blocks of ice for community events, and typing poems live at farmers' markets. I'm an active member of Writers NL, and I sit on the board for the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, currently chairing their 50th Anniversary Committee.
