I made the cut!!!!

A couple of months ago, I saw an Instagram ad for something that I was actually interested in. No, not for leggings or a weight loss app…. It was for a reality show. A reality show for writers filming in Cusco, Peru in May! If you know me, you know I'm borderline obsessed with writing, am a complete ham, and love to travel. So, this isn't up my alley, it is my alley.

The application was straightforward: a creative nonfiction sample, and a short informal video of yourself describing your favorite childhood television show (She-Ra - the Princess of Power by the way). I fired them off and didn’t think too much more about it.

That is, until yesterday when the list of fifty finalists was announced live on Youtube and my name was on it! The prospect of having this experience—and getting a publishing contract with a big 5 publisher—became concrete, possible, real. Now, I can’t think of anything else! I’m rewatching the announcement video and studiously prepping for the next steps.

Tonight, I join the other 49 finalists for a Meet and Greet and Q&A. Tomorrow, I submit my next assignment: one paragraph of transitional writing and one paragraph of scene writing. Then, I wait some more!

Seven contestants will be announced on April 1st and flown to Peru one month later, on May 1st for sixteen days of filming!  Cross your fingers, eyes, and toes for me!!!
