Great News – Followed by Terrible News!

This week has been a ROLLERCOASTER. As many of you know, I applied to be on the world’s first reality show for writers, Write or Flight, filming this May in Cusco, Peru. On Saturday, I found out I was selected as a contestant! 

I danced in my living room, screamed the news to my husband, and furiously called and messaged loved ones to share the happy development. I filled out a participant survey, reviewed the contract, and sent it to a lawyer pal.

On Sunday, I had a video call with some of the team to film content and review the next steps. I scheduled my meeting with the producer to purchase plane tickets on Tuesday. I joined the participant What’sApp group.Then, around lunchtime on Monday, I got an email that made my stomach plummet. My offer was rescinded because of my anaphylactic food allergies (which they had learned about in my survey responses).  Read more about my allergies here!

I totally understand their perspective, but I’m also absolutely gutted. I was so looking forward to this unique experience and the benefits it might bring to my writing career. I was ready to work hard and have fun with a group of writers from around the world. I even thought I had a good chance of winning!

But this is completely out of my control, so I can’t dwell on it too long (although, rest assured, I will dwell a little!). I love writing, and I know I have a long and beautiful journey of exploring and sharing my ideas with the world ahead. And maybe next year, they’ll film in an exotic locale that would be safer for me and invite me along! A gal can dream!
